the independent civil rights movement is a coalition of various interest groups organising chiefly around various cases of discrimination, harassment and violence to black people, particularly by the police. Best known is of course the failure to properly investigate the racist murder of Stephen Lawrence.

Other well known cases include those of Roger Sylvester, the Lindo family, Winston Silcott and Harry Stanley.

back to the Thames at Putney for the oxford and cambridge boat race, surely the least interesting of any nationally followed sporting event (except golf), involving as it does, two minor university teams.
