what is my london diary?
a record of my day to day wanderings in and around london, camera in
hand
and some of my comments which may be related to these - or not
things i've found and perhaps things people tell me.
if I really knew what this site was i wouldn't bother to write it.
it's london, it's part of my life,
but mainly pictures, arranged day by day, ordered by month and year.

When I began this site at the turn of the century I had little idea of how it would turn out. I only knew that digital photography and the rise of the web would combine to produce something new.
I'd begun putting my pictures on the web a few years earlier, in various clearly defined web sites, most of which are still on the web, but My London Diary was meant to be something different. A work in progress that we might now call an image blog or photoblog, though that term did not then exist.
Photoblogs became common a few years later, mainly based on content management systems. My London Diary is still hand-coded in html for the freedom this gives, although its basic design has changed little since 2009. The site now includes well over 150,000 images as well as large amounts of text.
You can see several of my mainly earlier web sites via these links
