Extinction Rebellion Parliament Square

Parliament Square, London. Sat 24 Nov 2018

A large force of police pushed their way in from one corner of the square through the crowd who had linked arms

and they trampled the area, destroying the carefully piled up turf and pushing the protesters back

The damage to the square was mainly police damage.

They pushed the protesters back, but I saw no arrests at this time. They may follow later.

There was quite a lot of heated argument and some rough handling by police, but protesters remained non-violent

but simply stood and faced the shouting police.

Eventually the police calmed down, having occupied the grave area

and t he protest continued. George Barda speaks

 Phoenix raises his fist

I leave the centre of the protest (needing a little help as I get entangled in the microphone and speaker cables)

and head for where police are stopping the pall-bearers with the XR coffin 'OUR FUTURE'

watched carefully by legal observers as well as photographers

THe pall-bearers have been halted and everyone is just standing quietly

and wondering what will happen next - see the next post
