Extinction Rebellion Parliament Square

Parliament Square, London. Sat 24 Nov 2018

A man stands holding a photograph of an elephant at the Extinction Rebellion (XR) rally

Many people had brought flowers for the funeral

A large wreath in the XR symbol and a toy Sumatran tiger, on the brink of extinction because of illegal logging

 'there is no planet b'

An environmental lawyer speaks - and is followed by Rabbi Jeffrey

who puts on his shawl to speak

A woman teaches the crowd a new song for the protest

and Kwame tells us how climate change is hitting Ghana

 More speakers

 including a transgender poet

 and a young activist

We get advice from one of the legal observers about our rights to protest and how to react to police, particularly if arrested

and Esther Utjiua Muinjangue talks about Stop the Maangamizi

Phoenix speaks about what is going to happen

and people come to start digging a grave in the centre of Parliament Square

They lift the turf carefully to as to avoid any damage

and pile it up to one side

before beginning to dig out a grave

The soil is highly compacted and digging almost impossible - showing the ground was not well-prepared before
laying the new turf. Had the protesters been allowed to continue they would have replaced the turf and it would
probably have grown more strongly after the extra digging.
