Loweswater

Loweswater, Cumbria. Sun 2 Sep 2018

It wasn't looking too good in Ennerdale, but we decided to go for a walk anyway

and drove towards Loweswater hoping it might be better there. It was only raining slightly when we started

enough to make the distance rather hazy

At times visiblity dropped considerably as the rain came on

though it was really rather less distinct than these pictures show as I've used some 'de-haze' on them

I thought these lumpy bits might be drumlins, though the geographer with us wasn't too sure

They were a part of the glacial deposit that blocked the end of the valley to create Loweswater

Much of the wood here is ancient woodland rather than modern forestry

We could see the whole length of the lake from our path on the side of the fell

which went up a lot higher than we were

It was an easy path to follow

just a few stones in places and fairly dry

I think this is Holme Beck

A small lake in the distance at High Nook in front of Black Crag. We took a path down to the lakeside by the wall here

Parts of the woodland are plantation
