Staines Good Friday Procession

People gathered in the foyer of the Methodist Chirch as it was raining
outside
The event began with a short explanation
which was folled by prayer
The Salvation Army Band was beginning to arive
and others went out to join them
A man wheels a cross ahead of the band
Watched by the sculptural figues carrying a roll of lino - though
they never did it like this in the lino works which closed around 1970
The band had been left well behind by the time the man wheeling the
cross reached the road leading to the Two Rivers shops
You can see the raindrops in front of the dark coats worn by the band
They turn into Norris Rd past the mosaic pavement in the High St
Followed by a crowd, many carrying umbrellas
and march towards the Two Rivers shopping centre
Where a statue of two dancers has hands which conveniently hold the
cross
and people gather around, singing as the band play the first hymn
A prayer
And a Bible reading
