Shut Down Yarls Wood 12

Yarl's Wood, Bedford. Sat 18 Nov 2017

The prison has put on a fashion show to try to keep women away from the windows, and guards harass them

and tell them to leave the rooms, try to pull them away, but they still manage to be there to greet the protest

and to take part in it. They can hear us and we can hear them across the gap and over the fence

At left another prison guard watches but the prisoners crowd around the next window

'Deport May'. 'Ministers Free Our Sisters'

The windows have limiters to stop them opening more than an inch or two

 Movement for Justice Nottingham banner

I couldn't read some of the mesages in red but they are clear on the photograph

From further back on the hill we can see part of the windows on the floor below, where there are some families

 as well as women

Photographs can show the prisoners more clearly than we can see them at the protest

'We 4 Months', 'Please Free Us'

and some hold up their mobile numbers so people can phone them - and they can speak on the public address system

Some of the windows get very crowded. Others are more difficult to see

Mabel Gawanas who was held inside for almost 3 years speaks to her friends still inside

 Protesters on the hill clap

 and the samba band plays
