Police threaten Runnymede Magna Carta festival

Runnymede Eco-Village, Surrey. Fri 12 Jun 2015

The village is in ancient woodland on the slopes above Runnymede

One of many homes built by residents. If they leave the camp, others may move in - property isn't owned but used

High tech and low tech co-exist, with a teepee with solar panels.

Erecting the main stage on the festival field

and getting ready at the poetry tent

There are extensive views from the hill

Almost all of the materials used for the various structures are found or reclaimed. Fallen timber may also be used

but the community aim to respect the forest and live with it rather than destroy it

The homes are built in natural clearings

This was the electronic music stage for the restival

Hare Krishna arrived with cake

and guitars

Phoenix, one of the orginal occupiers of the eco village in June 2012 - when it was higher on the hill - and Vinny

Inside the Long House. As well as timber, parts of the wall are traditional 'mud' or wattle and daub.

It has a very cosy atmosphere - and anyone was welcome to help themselves to tea and cakes

One of the gates onto National Traus

A sink for washing up had running water from a spring higher up the hill

Vinny wears a badge that later in the day became very pertinent: 'Who protects
us from the Police?' Unfortunately the answer in the short term is nobody, though
sometimes the courts will in the longer term. But on they spot they are a law unto
themselves - and often as on this day - act unlawfully.
