Walking the Coal Line

Peckham, London. Sat 30 May 2015

The view from the top level of the multistorey car park in Peckham

 and a rather wider version

and from here you can see the Coal Line better, with the railway and more trees between it and the Bussey Building

The nearer fail lines do curve around towards Nunhead, though less than this image suggests. They go over the Coal Line

and you can see more of the scaffolding too

I walked back towards the Jarman memorial garden - meant to echo his garden at Dungeness

Some fairly boring road walking took us across Consort Rd and on to this block on Cossall Walk

Here the walk went into Kirkwood Nature reserve which would be part of the Coal Line

I went passed a guided tour along the walk

At the end of the nature reserve we had to detour along a few roads to get to Queens Rd Station

Southwark Council seem rather proud of the new 'Plaza' there, though it was hard to see why

The Coal line would end opposite it (with perhaps a new crossing?) in what is now derelict land

I went back along Cossall Walk. A large multi-lane road was planned to be built just to the left behind a large wall

Again some boring streets, then into busy Consort Rd, where the entrance to the scaffolding yard is

Somehow the Coal Line would need to get across Consort Rd - and there is not enough room on the existing bridges

I walked back into Copeland Park - formerly an industrial estate

but for today it had been turned into a park

and out through Bussey Alley

To catch a train which took me over Rye Lane and more closely along the Coal Line
