The Hotel Workers branch of Unite protested outside Le Meridien hotel on Piccadilly in solidarity with fellow
workers for Sheraton hotels in Ethiopia and the Maldives who have been sacked for union organising.
Their banner said 'Shame on Sheraton' who also own this hotel
The protesters had a leaflet with details of what Sheraton were doing
Hotel workers are one of the most marginalised groups of workers in the UK, and many are exploited because
their English is poor or non-existent. Here in the UK they can also get sacked for joining a union
but despite this, the Hotel Workers branch is the fastest growing branch of Unite
After protesting for half an hour or so outside Le Meridien they walked down the road to another Sheraton Hotelo
The Park Lane Hotel, London, where they continued their protest, but I had to leave.
