No Borders: Harmondsworth Detention Centre

Harmondsworth, London, April 8, 2006

These protestors had gone along a public footpath to a field where they could be seen by the detainees.

Police pushed them fairly roughly back onto the main road then held them in pen

The police kept them penned in for about an hour.

This NUJ member was held for around 20 mins when police refused to recognise his Press Card

The senior officer informs them they are being held under Section 14 of the Public Order Act.
There seemed to be no likelihood of the serious public disorder required for this to apply.

Eventually the protestors were taken one at a time through a line of police and were then asked for their name and address. Again the legal grounds for this are at best doubtful. One person who refused was arrested, but later released when he decided to comply. They were then escorted inside a second cordon to their coaches.
