Marchers go through Piccadilly Circus
This was the most contentious banner on the march with both Metropolitan
Police and XR logos and the message
'Both Working For A Safer London'. Many in XR were upset that the group
decided to carry this banner on the
march as it had been intended purely for a protest against the police and
their labelling of XR as 'domestic terrorists',
pointing out their very different approaches to working for a safer London
rather than suggesting they were cooperating..
Advance publicity for the day had said their would be an act of civil disobedience
at Piccadilly Circus which for some
reason was called off. I suspect this would have been against the Met's
undergound control center under the protester's
feet in my photograph, which they took over from Westminster Council in
2017.
