Matlock & Matlock Bath

Matlock Derbyshire. Mon 30 Dec 2019

This narrow path a little way down from the summit of High Tor was named by a tabloid paper as the most

dangerous footpath in England. It would even be safe without the handrail but does give splendid views

 Matlock Bath

The cable car across the valley is the easy way up Masson Hill to 'The Heights of Abraham'

Trees beside the Derwent were festooned after the recent floods

Opposite the town are the 'Lover's Walks' on the wooded hillside

The pink building is the Peak District Mining Museum, but our first destination was the Fishpond pub opposite

and it does have a pond with fish which you can visit without going into the pub. We went to look at the fish

while waiting for our meals to arrive

and left by a door with a fish on it

to go to the mining museum.

We had to leave the museum before seeing everything as it was gettling late. We climbed up a path opposite

and soon had a view down the main street

We didn't visit the theme park, but went up the steps of a steep footpath

 past another blocked mine entrance

It was getting close to sunset

and the opposite side of the valley was bathed in golden light

 Then almost entirely in shadow

We came down the hill into Matlock

arriving back in twilight.
