Young Chinese students came to protest against those supporting the
Hong Kong protests
Chinese students studying in the UK are mostly here supported by the Chinese
government - or by very
wealthy Chinese families.
So it wasn't surprising that they came out to support their country
against the protests in Hong Kong
Many of those supporting the Hong Kong protests were people of Chinese
origin who live in the UK, but they
were joined by other UK citizens. Yellow is the colour of the Hong
Kong 'Umbrella Movement' freedom protesters,
and there were yellow banners & placards, yellow umbrellas, yellow
roses and yellow hats worn by protesters
The banners asked for support from the UK government - but the UK
will be careful not to damage trade prospects
Numbered posters had headings of the protesters five demands: '5 Genuine
Universal Suffranve
'4 Independent Inquiry into Police Behaviour'
Many had hand-made posters
'2 Withdraw the use of the word 'RIOT'', 3'Release the Arrested Protesters'
'how to get away with Murder; Become HK Police'
The most persistent of the young Chinese holds up signs reading 'TRAITOR'
in front of the marchers
'1 Withdraw the Extradition Bill'
'Is this the Price of Freedom?' Many of the marchers wore black gags
'You can have a different opinion on politics but you can bury your
conscience'
'Hong Kong is the New Berlin'
There were a few with Socialist Worker placards
And a Tibetan flag
The marchers stopped on the road opposite Downing St and listened
to some speeches
Police kept the opposition on the other side of the road where they
tried to drown out the speakers
'Kneel Down And Lick your Master's Ass' 'Will Not Make
Any Change!'
'Save Hong Kong'
