The event hadn't started when I arrived in Windrush Square and people
were still getting ready
Speakers were on the stage in front of a large banner with pictures
of Marcus Garvey, Haile Selassie, Harriet Tubman and others
and a small group of people drummed at the side in front of the crowd
A Rastafarian prays
and a man makes libations honouring the many Africans who have taken
part in the struggle
pouring water on to the ground after each is named
Others speak
Decorations show Haile Selassie and the lion of Judah on the trolley
supporting a large drum
Two women hold the old Imperial state flag of Ethiopia with the Emperor's
symbol of the "Conquering Lion of Judah"
A man from the Black Muslims gives out the directions for the event
which they have helped organise
People drum and dance in front of the Tate Library
People begin to get in line for the march. A banner remembers the German
Empire genocide in South West Africa
