People and the pink Dodo line up behind the main banner 'Climate And
Ecological Emergency'
and there are some chants and some instructions for the procession,
which is waiting for the boat to be ready
Finally the procession sets off
led by the Act Now bike and drummers
The pink Dodo and other marchers
The procession goes down the Strand
with drumming
and loud chanting
and turns down towards Waterloo Bridge
I stop and let the procession go past, waiting for the Polly Higgins
'We Can't Eat Money'
'End Ecocide Now' poster
The Polly Higgins has a police escort at the end of the procession,
the mast strapped down
Behind it people carry a banner with the message 'Rebel For Life'
The front of the procession is almost across the bridge
and stops, and people sit down
in a short protest against the police violence towards peaceful protesters
when they were arresting people
during the 'Garden Bridge' occupaton of the bridge in April.
There are some short speeches
and people chant 'Tell the Truth' and other slogans
before getting up and moving off towards Waterloo
Rupert Read speaks
and the march goes down Waterloo Rd. A woman carries a large placard
with the message 'Out of Excuses, Out of TIME'
and another has XR symbols on both cheeks
'The Dinosaurs Had No Choice - We DO'
A giant banner 'MAN UP No.10! - 2050 Extinction 2025 To Survive'.
We need to cut carbon emissions much quicker than the government plans
A woman holds a smudge stick and another has a complicated
placard. The front of the procession is more or less at the Waterloo Millenium
Garden
where XR are intending to stay most of the week, but it has stopped moving.
I decide it is time for me to catch a train home from Waterloo station.
