UPHD stewards stand ready to guide drivers to park in the nearside
lane of the road
UPHD co-founder James Farrar
The drivers left the cycle lane open
A PA system played loud music
and UPHD members waved flags
Traffic continued to flow on the outside lane
Drivers march to the corner
where there was to be a brief rally largely for the TV crews who had
come to cover the strike
It was prayer time, and some of the drivers put down the flags in
a quiet corner to use a prayer mats
while others continued the protest
Drivers line up with banners
and IWGB President Henry Chango Lopez leads some chanting against
Uber. Drivers want a larger share of
the fares and fairer treatment by Uber, including proper employment
rights as workers
Drivers say they earn much less than the minimum wage for the hours
they work
UPHD co-founder James Farrar holds a placard 'Uber Driving us into
Poverty'
Uber's market launch will make its owners rich, but the drivers will
get nothing from it
Someone sets off a smoke flare
and it is kicked out onto the pavement in front of the banner
where a police officer comes to pick it up. He doesn't know how to
deal with it, and eventually
walks away and drops it in a corner as it runs out
The front of the row of UPHD drivers cars is in front of a large electronic
billboard - which has ads for Uber
