Drax wood burning must end

Grocers Hall, London. Wed 17 Apr 2019

A protester wears a shirt supporting an ecocide law

and hands out leaflets to people passing by

One man rushes past holding one of the flyers he has just taken

 Campaigners discuss the issues

and shareholders go into the AGM

A photograph shows an area of forest after clear-cutting to provide biofuel

Drax got an envioronmental subsidy of £789m in 2018 for the huge pollution and envrionmental damage it makes buring wood

But we should be subsidising genuine renewables - wind, sun etc - not burning carbon fuels like wood and coal

Drax's "decabonisation" project simply means switching to other carbon fuels - wood chip and gas with little or no decrease in carbon emissions

"#axedrax not forests, communities and the climate'

XR (Extinction Rebellion) protesters joined in the protest

'Divest from Biomass' . It would make some sense to use annual growth plants, but not trees that have taken years to grow

Burning wood as Drax goes is at least as damaging to the environment as burning fossil fuels

 'Stop subsidisingburning Wood & Coal'

'drax - This dinosaur munches whole trees'. Forests that have taken hundreds of years to mature are being uprooted for Drax

and it is very definitely NOT GREEN

 Duncan Law

 Rupert Read from XR

London Mining Network speaker talks about the environmental damage and human rights abuses in getting coal from Colombia

Green Party GLA member Caroline Russell
