People carriy in the SOAS Unison banner to join the cleaners inside King's.
The council meeting was being held
in the building to the right.
The Unison cleaners were already inside, waiting for the decision
There was a lot of spirited chanting and expressions of support
Several of the cleaners spoke
and one of the visitors
The security staff also want to be brought in-house, and one of them spoke.
I had to leave several hours before
the council meeting finished, and although the council agreed they would
bring the cleaners in-house as soon
as feasible, the official statement was only issued the following morning.
It was a great victory for the Unison branch, and one that was only gained
through their actions and the support
that they received from students, some teaching staff and other trade unions
in organising highly visible protests
such as that today.
