Small streams flow into the lake across the path
and a few larger ones - I think this is Red Beck
There are well-placed stepping stones to cross them
and the path is very stony
as is the hillside in places
as well as the edge of the lake
Woodland comes down to the lake edge
We find a large group of stones to sit and eat our sandwiches
before continuing along the stony path
A dead sheep floats in the water, its carcass gnawed open
Live sheep graze
and move away as we walk past
Green fields at the end of the lake
and we go across the level floor of the valley
to a bridge across the river which feeds into the top of the lake
The path leads beside the lake along a road not open to the public
but I walk down a few short paths to the waters edge to take photographs
and sometimes there is an open view from the path, but mostly there
are trees or bushes which hide the view
Across the water it is hard to see Angler's Crag as the sun is in
our eyes (and lenses)
After a mile or two we can take a path away from the road to stay
by the lake. It's harder walking but much more interesting
and then the path continues at the water's edge without the road
We get a better view of the distant hills from this side of the lake
There was once a hotel here on the side of the lake, and boats took
anglers out onto the lake from here. It
is still a popular spot, not too far from where you can park and with fine
views of distant hills and the water
We leave the lake where the road takes us back towards Ennerdale Bridge
and Far Moorend
