Victor from the UVW speaks in Spanish for the Latino community, many
of whom rely on the Elephant shopping centre
People move off and wait to cross the road
But they stop on the crossing, blocking the busy road
with a large banner
'Stop the Elephant Development - Shame on UAL'
Earlier this year students occupied part of the LCC in protest against
the development
Papaya Guthrie speaks
and ignores the police who are trying to get her to move off the road.
But after a few minutes the protesters
do move and walk along the pavement
to the grass around another development in the area - one of several
tall tower blocks with no social housing
They then return for a final rally outsiode the LCC
Marianne Murray speaks
and Papaya Guthrie
who calls to the crowd to go to the LCC
but her way is blocked by a line of police
After a few mintes Papaya Guthrie calls the protest to an end, though many
of the students from the LCC stay on.
