Many from the London Women's Strike were in the market at Covent Garden
when I arrived
Along with members and supporters from the CAIWU
including Alberto Durango who spoke about how the six CAIWU members
were being vicitmised for having
been a part of the successful campaign for the London Living Wage
Four have already been sacked for minor timekeeping offences and two
are also being dealt with by Kier, a
company who have a record of anti-trade union practices. He calls
on everyone to follow the CAIWU to protest
outside the main entrance to the Royal Opera House
CAIWU members are first to arrive and shout at the security men behind
the locked doors
'Justice For The Cleaners'
The rest of the crowd soon arrive. Drury Lane is narrowed because
of construction works and the crowd blocks the street to traffic
A campiagner sets off an orange smoke flare
and runs around with it
behind a banner 'Low Pay Is A Feminist Issue'
and then faces the Royal Opera House
'Future In Our Hands'
