The protesters set up in front of the National Gallerey with a banner
against sanctions and supporting elections
'Venezuela A New Iraq?' They fear the US is preparing to invade them
or give military support to a coup attempt
Chavez added an eigth star to the Venezuelan flag
Hugo Chavez began to better the lot of the poor in Venezuela and Maduro's
attempts to continue his work
have been stopped by the fall in oil prices and by EU and US sanctions
which have hurt the country's oil trade
But sanctions and threats of invasion and the US opposition to democratic
elections increase Maduro's support
though the US and Western media have reported the protests largely
by the middle classes they have failed
to properly report huge popular protests in support of Maduro. The
papers here concentrate on the problems
which are largely caused by the sanctions.
Two women come to shout insults at the protesters
The flags they are carrying are the new Venezuelan flag introduced
by Chavez - and it is upside down on the pole
One of the protesters with a fine voice sings a national song in response
to the insults
One woman has a hat with the eight stars and left running horse introduced
by the socialist Chavez govemment
she is protesting against as a communist regime which she says is
ruining the nation.
Two fingers...
A protester tells the woman she knows nothing about his country and
the changes Maduro is making
but she is not listening, just shouting insults
'No Sanctions, Yes Elections' Venezuela is a democratic country insist
the protesters
but the insults continue
As does the singing
And then a speech
The protesters laugh at the two women trying to disrupt the protest
which continues despite them
