Police had come prepared for a rather larger protest at the United
Arab Emirates embassy in Grosvenor
Crescent at the North East corner of Belgrave Square
One of the organisers speaks
The Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist Leninist) had produced
placards for the event
with the message 'Death to Imperialism! African Lives Matter'
Of course Oil, shown with NATO sitting on it is only one of many resources
from LIbya and others are more
important in most of Africa.
Africa is a continent rich in resources - minerals and people - which
have long been plundered and produced
much of the wealth of countries like this, and continue to do so
Several of the speakers had visited Libya, and some were very positive
about the changes Gaddafi had made
to the country
while some others were more sceptical.
One placard reminded us of the campaign over 200 years ago against
slavery with its slogan 'Am I not A Man and a Brother'
A speaker reminds us that the slave trade and the repression of Black
Africans also took place under Gaddafi
The African Lives Matter poster 'Speak Up for those who can't - No
More Slavery'
and their banner with its message 'Hands Off Africa!'
