Don't destroy Elephant & Castle

Southwark, London. Tue 16 Jan 2018

Students from LCC - part of the University of the Arts London - UAL - on the march

Aysen Dennis, an Aylesbury resident fighting for her and her neighbours' homes

holds the Aylesbury banner in front of the door into the council offices

while a rally takes place outside, with some noisy chanting

and speeches. One of the campaigners to keep the Latin Village at Seven Sisters speaks about the need to fight together

 A Southwark activist speaks

'UAL are complicit in this social cleansing and gentrification'

Hands off secure tenancies - No Means test - No 'Near-Market' rents - No evictions

Labour councillor Rebecca Lury speaks against the Elephant plans

Piers Corbyn, a housing activist from a Southwark estate speaks. Jeremy' is his younger brother.

And a GMB union rep from the London College of Communication speaks about the opposition to the plan by
students and staff there, despite the management's suppport.

Tanya Murat who organised and led the protest speaks

People wait to be admitted to the meeting - but there wasn't enough room for all who wanted to be there

I left more or less as the meeting stared at 6pm - but it continued until 1am. The developers lost this round but
will try to win a repeat vote on January 30th. If they do, the fight will still continue.
