Ats I arrive at the West gate police are leading away Charlie X who
had locked himself to a lorry.
but I think he had brought the keys with him, which made their job
a little easier
a supporter hands him a flower
and the police return his stick
Another supporter comes to Charlie X
and police lead him away
There are about a dozen police to one man who is not resisting arrest
Its difficult to get good pictures as he is led away, but I try not
to get in the way of the police
though some of them like to push photographers away even when they
are not in the way
and trying hard to keep clear
back at the roundabout and on the pavement at the edge people hold
posters
against the arms fair
and dance to a sound system.
Police approach a man who is standing quitely on the roundabout
and move him away to question and search him. He is being arrested
simply because he has a chain to lock his wheels
to his bike when he leaves it locked. For some reason police think this
is a criminal offence
The dancing on the roundabout continues
A friend of the man being arrested goes up to talk to him
and when he tells police what he thinks is threatened with arrest
himself
Police lead away the man being arrested simply because he has a chain
to lock his bike around his neck. You couldn't make this up.
'Peace Trumps War'
'Bikes Not Bombs!'
'Britain is Complicit' 'Stop Arms Trade Murder'
And people sing.
