Protesters block DSEI arms fair entrances

ExCeL Centre, London. Wed 6 Sep 2017

The Mayor of London is against the arms fair, but says he can do nothing to stop it

At the West Gate a group sings peace songs and three people have blocked the road in a triple lock-on

The police special unit are working to split the three

 but finding it hard going

There seems to be a metal grid and tar in the box through which arms are linked

Most of the time police obstruct the view of what is happening

and move away a legal observer

 as well as protesters

A police officer uses an angle grinder

one of those in the lock-on is looking a little worried

Police take great care to avoid injury and use screens and goggles to protect the eyes of the people as they try to cut them apart

Protesters crowd around on the pavement and sing

 and have a tea party

Occasionally the officers move and I get a clear view of what is happening, some of them are rather fat and perhaps specially picked to block our view

a protester moves in close to take some pictures before police move her away

The first protester is removed - and taken to a police van, and the special unit takes a rest

 Other protesters watch

 and stand with banners

The special unit want to leave the remaining protesters by the side of the road as they are not blocking traffic|
but they get orders from above that they have to cut them apart
