We set out for a day's walking, much of it on fairly empty minor roads such
as this
This is said to be where the last battle in the Civil War was fought
and has a small monument with a plan of the battle
but some historians now doubt it is the site as recent excavations
revealed no traces of the battle
Coming into Donnington. The area around Stow-on-the-Wold is the highest
part form some distance around
St Paul's Church Broadwell
"Monument to Herbert Weston, died 1635, his wife and child comprising
alabaster figures. Kneeling at a prayer desk under a Renaissance canopy
flanked by free-standing columns. Painted heraldic shield above flanked
by pointed finials."
Rose family graves
'Bale' tombs in the churchyard - the tops were thought to represent
bales of wool
They are common in the Cotswolds and this is possibly the best collection
of them
Next to the church
As we walked down from Broadwell to Stow-on-the -Wod there was a view
of the converted remains of the windmill at Oddington
and this large house
We passed two wells - this was the lower and larger of the two
