people kept shouting and some were banging hard on the glass which
was flexing by around half an inch
I was worried the glass would break and moved back
Finally police and security arrived and stood in front of the glass
stopping most of the banging on it, but the shouting continued
and people were banging on bins and pan lids
After I while I went back to the front of the building
where a rally was taking place
and Unite London regional secretary Pete Kavanagh came to speak
As well as a number of the other campaigners
Others shouted or blew vuvuzelas
The rally was continuing noisily when I left, and would have been very noticeable
in the council meeting which
was taking place outside - and where the council voted to go ahead with
the scheme to give away around £2billion
of public property to the developers Lendlease, an Australian company already
invovled in various dubious
schemes of social cleansing the capital. It seems inevitable there will
be legal challenges as well as further protests.
