A poster of Ricky Bishop was taped to the tree
'We Remember Ricky Bishop - We Demand Justice'
Some call the tree in front of the police station 'the lynching tree'
because of the deaths of Black people inside
for years it was a memorial tree, with flowers and tributes to some
of the dead, including
Wayne Douglas, Ricky Bishop and Sean Rigg. But all these were stripped
off in October 2015
on the day when the United Families and Friends of those killed in
custody were taking part in their
annual memorial march in Westminster, knowing they would be away
from Brixton.
and flowers were taped next to the poster
'Sister Unity' performed her poem 'The
Lynching Tree Down Brixton Way' which she wrote after hearing an
interview with Doreen Bishop in 2004
