Trafalgar Place is built on the site of the Heygate estate, replacing social housing by expensive flats

Southwark council spent years running down the Heygate and moving families out

most had to move long distances away from their homes. They sold the estate at a knockdown price to developers Lend Lease.
The new developments will have virtually no remotely affordable housing

More people take cards from Geraldine Dening on their way into the gala presentation

The card shows one of the places well outside London where house owners from Heygate could afford property - recently the Conservative housing minister turned down a Southwark Council compulsory purchase order saying the compensation offered was grossly unfair and breached the leaseholders human rights. Heygate leaseholders got around half the value of similar properties close to where they lived. A map on the reverse of the card showed where they had to move out to so they could afford to buy replacement properties.

whose comments on social housing have disgusted many.
