South Hill Park

Bracknell, Berks. Mon 8 Aug 2016

 Shelley lived here

South Hill Park has extensive grounds with two lakes

The housemay have begun life before 1683, but was enlarged in 1750, re-modelled in classical style in 1760

and had major alterations and garden work etc in the 1890s which made it roughly as it is now.

Bracknell Development Corporation acquired the park and house in 1962, and decided to make it an arts centre

in 1970. Considerable work was required and .it opened in October 1973, though work was continuing.

A new theatre was added to one side in 1984, and a lottery grant in 2002 enabled much further work.

A second lottery grant in 2008 allowed the park to be improved.
