Broadwater farm was an experimental high density estate built in the late 1960s and allowed to deteriorate for
many years, becoming notorious in the 1985 riots. Because of flood risk (from the Moselle) there was no housing at ground level, and a series of
isolated walkways at first floor level connected the buildings. There were over a thousand flats housing around 3-4,000 people.
