Protesters came at short notice to the BIS when they heard the CETA deal was being initialled in secret
CETA includes mechanisms allowing companies to take governments to arbitration if they think policies reduce
their profit or expectation of profit. They could use them to force privatisation of the NHS
or to prevent introduction of plain packaging for cigarettes (it's happening already in Australia) or to stop
our government switching energy generation to renewables (Germany is already getting taken to court.)
These proposals - ISDS - are also part of the TTIP, also being negotiated in secret and if allowed in CETA will be very difficult not to let them into TTIP
The group marched to Europe House in Smith Square
taking a long way round via Parliament Square, where I asked them to stop for some photos
before continuing to Smith Square
