London Mosque protest for Sunni extremist

Regents Park Mosque, London. Fri 30 May 2014

Anjem Choudary was speaking when I arrived at the mosque

Omar Bakri Muhammad has been arrested in Lebanon

He is said to have expressed support for the extremist group the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant

w ho are  fighting in northern Syria, and to have called on them to set up cells in Lebanon.

Omar Bakri Muhammad came to the UK and claimed asylum in 1986.

He was a controversial figure for his activities at Finsbury Park Mosque

and was one of the founders of Al Muhajiroun, a radical Islamist group that was banned after the London bombings.

After he went to Lebanon he was told by the Home Office that he would not be allowed back to the UK.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment in Lebanon in 2010, but released on bail after some people changed
their testimony. Lebanese security forces raided his house in April 2014 but he had fled, but was taken in May

The women were standing apart from the men, holding up posters

They were close enough to hear the speeches which were powerfully amplified

but none of them spoke
