Garden Halls Closure Senate House Protest

University of London. Fri 16 May 2014

There was a steady stream of people going in and out of Senate House - many took the flyer about the Garden

Halls closure and the redundancies of cleaners, caterers, porters, maintenance and security staff - and the

refusal of either the University or their contractors Cofely to talk with the IWGB

IWGB leader Alberto Durange arrived and the protest gained in volume

and the protesters marched around the outside of Senate House

The doors on the south side were locked as they arrived

But they were able to walk into Stewart House

and protest briefly inside there

wandering around a little inside Stewart House

where I was lost and possible they were too!

Eventually we climbed up the stairs to a side exit

watched by the secuirty staff

who are also low paid workers who benefit from the union activities in the University

Outside there was a little chanting before it was time for the protest to stop

It had been held during the lunch break so as not to interfere with examinations taking place, and it

ended a few minutes before some were due to start with the usual message "We'll be back!"
