Barts cuts Health Advocacy & Interpreting

Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, London. Wed 16 Apr 2014

There were representatives from Tower Hamlets Labour party as well as from Mayor Lutfur Rahman at the protest

The Mayor had sent a statement of support and an apology for being unable to be present in person

Some of the women taking part preferred to stand at the back of the protest

The protesters took a petition to the main door of the hospital where it was received by

Mark Cubbon, Executive Director of Delivery who talked briefly with the protesters

and tried with little success to reassure them.

But the real problem here as elsewhere in the NHS is the huge burden of debt from misconceived and poorly
negotiated PFI (Private Finance Initiative) ccontracts - in particular for the new building we were standing in
front of. It was badly needed, but the private companies involved in these contracts are making huge profits.
