Focus E5 Mothers Party Against EvictionEast Thames Housing Assn, Stratford, London. Fri 17 Jan 2014 |

Of course it doesn't make any sense. Our politics is the politics of the the rich and powerful for the rich and powerful increasing the gap between the rich and the poor means the poor increasingly get shafted. Of course that isn't what he said, but it is the reality behind what he said, and those hands he waved around are really firmly tied behind his back. Its no fun being a puppet, even if you are a well-meaning puppet. Probably like many people he came into social housing wanting desperately to improve the lot of the poor but finds himself serving the interests of the rich. Or perhaps that's just how I would feel in his place. The mothers put their case. He listens. Says it isn't up to him, he hasn't the power to grant what they want. But that while they can't rehouse them, East Thames won't evict them. |
