12 Years of Illegal Guantanámo Jail

Trafalgar Square, London. Sat 11 Jan 2014

Protesters gathered on the North Terrace of Trafalgar Square

The wife and daughter of Shawki Ahmed Omar protest regularly at the US embassy over his torture and imprisonment in Iraq

and started to line up in front of the National Gallery

with placards showing birds on barbed wire and a count of twelve

They came together in a block

and I managed to take a photograph before they were organised

One man's head could be clearly seen surrounded by the placards - I thought it looked as if he was looking out of a cell

But I couldn't see a good way to use the whole block in an image

The arranged group broke up and

more people picked up 'Free Shaker Aamer' placards

Liberal Democrat MEP for London Baroness Sarah Ludford

Activists continued to pose with banners 'Save Shaker Aamer'

and 'Free Shaker Aamer Now'

Amnesty International banner and cards reading Bring Home Shaker (Aamer Now)

'!2 years Broken Promises = Broken Hearts Free Shaker' and a Peace flag
