Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, London. Tue 8 Oct 2013
The huge repayments on PFI schemes - such as the new Royal London Hospital - are crippling the NHS, causing closures.
Barts Health Trust can't afford to open and staff the top floors of the new building and is making closures at other hospitals such as Whipps Cross
and cutting essentail local services - to pay £129m a year to the bankers. PFI was always a mistake, but the 2008 collapse made it an absolute disaster
Local doctors were among those speaking out at the meeting
Nurses are suffering pay cuts, being downgraded to lower scales at Whipps Cross and elsewhere
and have come to protest against this and the other consequences of cuts by Barts Health Trust
The protest was large enough to block the pavement on they busy road, and police made
the protesters move in front of the hospital - where they had earlier been refused permission to protest
