Don't hang Prof Bhullar!

Indian High Commission, London. Fri 24 May

It was pouring with rain and there were fewer than expected at the protest outside the Indian High Commission

Prof Bhullar, convicted after he was tortured into making a confession, has been on death row for 18 years

and is likely to be hanged soon unless international pressure makes the Indian government think again

Sikhs were made promises by Ghandu and Nehru in return for support for a united India before independence

but once the regime came into power it declared their aspirations unconstituional and adopted an 'iron fist' policy towards the Sikhs,

many of whom went on to call for a separate Sikh state, Khalistan.

Prof Bhullar's father, uncle and best friend were all abducted and tortured to death by police in the early 1990s.

A man shows me a book with a photo of Sikh leaders meeting President Reagan.
