London Beijing Torch Relay Shames Olympic Ideals

Bloomsbury and Trafalgar Square, London. Sunday 6th April, 2008

Eventually there were just too many protesters for the police to force into the pen

But they surrounded them, allowing press out

Soon press were cleared further back, then forced to go to the other side of the road

I stood next to this woman, taking care not to stop her seeing what was happening

Perhaps our police cyclists should be given rollerblades as well?

The rumour was that the torch was on this bus - it certainly was totally hidden for this part of the route. Apparently police had advised it would not be sensible to allow the Chinese ambassador to walk with it here as planned - and she carried it later in Chinatown.
