i feel desperately sorry for the Kurds, a proud people fighting what seems to be a hopeless battle against Turkey and the other countries which rule Kurdistan. the latest setback is the proscription of the PKK after 9/11, but they are constant victims of the real-politik of the area.

perhaps the day will come when US strategic interests in the area line up with their aspirations, but until then it seems hopeless

the start of the year of the horse was celebrated in central london on 17 feb. for the first time, mayor ken had allowed the use of trafalgar sq as well as leicester sq and the rest of soho chinatown.

the money god handed out good fortune in the shape of 1 euro coins, lions and dragons added colour and despite the extra area it was still crowded.
