Free Shahidul Alam

Bangladesh High Commission, London. Fri 10 Aug 2018

Peeople pose with posters calling for the false charges against Shadidul Alam to be dropped and for him to

be released. The well-known photographer and founder of Drik and Majority World agencies in Dhaka was

seized from his home by police shortly after giving an interview with Al Jazeera over Skype in which he

criticised the Bangladesh government's handling of students protesting about road safety.

Shaidul Alam also founded the Pathshala school of photography, arguably the world's leading school for

photojournalists. Among those calling for his release were a number of photographers.

Shahidul Alam was badly beaten up in jail and could hardly walk when he was brought to court
